DiadSea Project recognized as a “Decade Project” under the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science

The DiadSea project was recently recognized as a Decade Project within the framework of the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030). This distinction integrates DiadSea into the UN Decade Actions, reinforcing its international relevance in the study and conservation of diadromous fish.

The project is now part of the host program Fisheries Strategies for Changing Oceans and Resilient Ecosystems by 2030 (FishSCORE 2030), a global initiative that seeks to develop innovative strategies to ensure the resilience of marine ecosystems and fisheries in a context of climate change and increasing anthropogenic pressures.

This recognition represents a significant step forward for the project, giving it greater international visibility and institutional reinforcement, as well as promoting transnational scientific cooperation. DiadSea focuses on the protection and sustainable management of diadromous fish, species that are essential for connectivity between freshwater and marine ecosystems, currently in sharp decline.

Its integration into the Ocean Decade underscores the scientific community's commitment to producing applied knowledge, developing shared solutions, and promoting good practices in the conservation and management of aquatic resources, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda.

This milestone also reinforces DiadSea's role as a platform for international collaboration, actively contributing to the preservation of aquatic biodiversity and the sustainability of fisheries globally.
