Ocean Hackathon® Peniche 2026

MARE invites all interested parties to submit challenges for the 2026 edition of Ocean Hackathon® – Peniche, which will take place from 16 to 18 October 2026 at the School of Tourism and Maritime Technology of the Polytechnic of Leiria.

Ocean Hackathon® is an international initiative created in 2016 by the Campus Mondial de la Mer (Brest, France), promoting data sharing, the use of digital technologies, and an entrepreneurial spirit centred on the oceans. It is currently held simultaneously in several cities worldwide, establishing itself as a benchmark in marine data-driven innovation.

Over 48 hours, multidisciplinary teams will develop innovative prototypes based on marine data, addressing real-world challenges set by national and international organisations, with support from mentors and experts.

Challenge submissions are open until 30 May and offer an opportunity to explore new solutions, collaborate with highly qualified multidisciplinary teams, and actively contribute to innovation in the ocean domain.

The event is organised by the local ecosystem linked to Hub Azul – Smart Ocean, in close collaboration with the School of Tourism and Maritime Technology, through MARE – Marine and Environmental Sciences Centre, the Polytechnic of Leiria, the Municipality of Peniche, and Hub Azul Portugal.

This edition will also be supported by the BSC AI Factory (Barcelona Supercomputing Center), which will provide free access to the MareNostrum 5 supercomputer, as well as computing services dedicated to Artificial Intelligence to support innovation.
