Launch of the Manual “Sustainable Ocean Plans: A Practitioner’s Guide”

MARE – Center for Marine and Environmental Sciences announces the invitation from the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC/UNESCO) to the launch session of the manual “Sustainable Ocean Plans: A Practitioner’s Guide,” which features MARE researcher Catarina Frazão Santos as one of the authors. The session will take place on October 30, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. (Lisbon time), in an online format.

This new technical manual, developed under the Ocean Panel, provides a practical and detailed guide for creating Sustainable Ocean Plans (SOPs) — plans that aim to achieve 100% sustainable ocean management. These plans provide a strategic framework, based on scientific knowledge and participation, that defines a long-term vision for ocean sustainability.

The manual addresses topics such as:
  • Defining the objectives and scope of SOPs through coordination and collaboration;
  • Financial planning and resource mobilization;
  • Establishing baselines and analyzing future scenarios;
  • Structural elements of SOPs;
  • Implementation and action planning.

During the session, the main authors will present the content of the manual, followed by a discussion with representatives from Ocean Panel countries about their experiences in developing their respective national plans.

The event is open to all interested parties but requires prior registration HERE.
