Missão: Restaurar o Oceano

As part of Environment Week, the temporary exhibition “Mission: Restore the Ocean” opened on June 6 at Funchal's Natural History Museum.

The aim of the exhibition is to raise public awareness of the importance of macroalgae ecosystems and to promote knowledge about the rich marine biodiversity found in the Autonomous Region of Madeira. At the same time, it seeks to give visibility to the environmental recovery work carried out along the Madeiran coast over the last two years, as part of the European CLIMAREST project, funded by the European Union's Horizon program, which is dedicated to regenerating marine habitats affected by climate impacts and human activities in five European zones.

During the visit, the public will be able to see underwater images of Madeira's seas, identify various species using interactive technological resources and learn about the scientific methodologies that underpin the coastal restoration actions underway in the region.

This initiative is the result of a partnership between the Municipality of Funchal, through the Funchal Natural History Museum, and MARE-Madeira, an entity associated with ARDITI (Regional Agency for the Development of Research, Technology and Innovation) and the University of Madeira (UMa).
