Águeda hosts LIFE project closing seminar

On June 27, the Municipality of Águeda hosted the Closing Seminar of the LIFE Águeda project. The event brought together various experts, technicians and representatives of partner organizations to take stock of the interventions carried out over the last few years to protect and enhance river ecosystems.

During the seminar, the main results obtained in the field were presented, with special emphasis on improving connectivity between aquatic habitats and rehabilitating riparian zones. The meeting also made it possible to discuss funding possibilities for future projects, focused on replicating good practices, and gave the stage for the presentation of other actions integrated into the European LIFE program, promoting technical dialogue and the sharing of experiences between national and international participants.

The actions carried out in Águeda focused on the requalification of ecological corridors near rivers, the creation of structures that facilitate the mobility of fish species and the promotion of awareness-raising initiatives aimed at the population. In the afternoon, the participants visited the fish passage installed in the Redonda River Park - an infrastructure that contributes to the free movement of migratory species - and the River Interpretation Center, a space dedicated to environmental education and the enhancement of the region's natural river heritage.

The seminar ended in this very center, symbolizing the convergence of ecological conservation, public awareness and community participation - the main values of the LIFE Águeda project, which has established itself as an example of good practice in the management of water resources and the preservation of the Baixo Vouga river ecosystems.

The LIFE Águeda project is coordinated by the University of Évora and has the technical and scientific support of MARE. In addition to the Municipality of Águeda, which is the beneficiary partner, the municipalities of Mora, the Fluviário de Mora, DOCAPESCA - Portos e Lotas S.A., and AQUALOGUS - Engenharia e Ambiente, Lda. are also part of the implementation team.
