First fisheries co-management committee was created with strong MARE involvement

Last Friday, December 17th, was formally created the first co-management committee for fishery in Portugal. The Comité de Cogestão do Percebe da Reserva Natural das Berlengas highlights the importance of co-management processes for efficiently manage natural resources.

Soon this co-management mechanism will be implemented and it’s due to many years of work of researchers from MARE in terms of biology and the assessment of fishing effort. The project that is working on this is CO-Pesca 2.
