MARE researcher presents CoastNet infrastructure at “Surfing the Blue” event on ocean funding

On May 9, MARE researcher Ana Brito took part in the event “Surfing the Blue: Navigating Ocean-Funding Opportunities”, promoted by the National Innovation Agency (ANI) and the National Committee for the Decade of the Ocean (CNDO).

The event took place at the Lisbon Geographical Society and brought together researchers, funding bodies and policymakers to discuss national and European funding opportunities in the context of Horizon Europe's Ocean & Water Mission and the Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.

Ana Brito was present at the session “Success Stories with National Coordination”, where she presented the CoastNet infrastructure, included in the National Roadmap of Research Infrastructures of Strategic Interest. In a pitch lasting about five minutes, she highlighted the importance of CoastNet in the continuous environmental monitoring of estuaries and coastal zones, through the collection of physical-chemical and biological data with in situ sensors and satellite images.

The intervention by the MARE researcher highlighted the contribution of national science to the construction of data-based solutions, which are fundamental for a more informed and sustainable management of marine and coastal ecosystems.
