Investigadores do MARE conquistam prémio Marie Skłodowska-Curie de 4,5 milhões de euros

Marko Radeta and Thomas Dellinger, professors at Universidade da Madeira (UMa) and researchers at MARE/ARNET and ARDITI, are part of the consortium now distinguished with the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Doctoral Networks award, of 4,5 million euros.

The award will provide funding for the Network for Oceanic Sensing and Integrated Science (NOESIS), an international doctoral network in ocean sciences committed to training a new generation of researchers to address the challenges humanity faces in the study and management of the oceans.

NOESIS brings together 13 European partners coordinated by University of Helsinki, which will jointly recruit 15 doctoral candidates. The programme is scheduled to begin in October 2026 and will run for four years.

The future researchers will receive specialised training in embedded systems, artificial intelligence, design, and marine sciences. The approach is multidisciplinary and based on the co-creation of end-to-end observation systems, moving beyond more fragmented methods.

The NOESIS network is structured around four main pillars: interdisciplinary training for researchers focused on innovation; the development of next-generation technologies for autonomous ocean observation (TRL 4–6); the integration of technology and life sciences through algorithms and multimodal data fusion; and the translation of complex data into predictive models that expand scientific knowledge of marine ecosystems.

The objectives of NOESIS reflect the mission of MARE: to integrate collaborative and international science in order to address real-world challenges affecting marine ecosystems, while actively investing in the training of future generations of researchers.
