Ria Formosa Week returns between 17 and 24 April 2026, with the aim of mobilising the community in defence of the ecosystem, in an initiative promoted by the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests (ICNF), in partnership with local authorities, associations, and various regional entities.
The programme, primarily aimed at school communities across the five municipalities that make up the Ria Formosa Natural Park—Faro, Loulé, Olhão, Tavira and Vila Real de Santo António—is diverse and includes workshops, field trips, volunteering activities, lectures, exhibitions, and initiatives aimed at families and the general public, focusing on environmental awareness and the promotion of knowledge about the natural values of this territory.
MARE is involved in the delivery of the activity “Emc2 Project – Visit to the Ancão's White crowberry”, which will take place on 22 April in Faro, in the Ancão Forest Management Plan area. It will involve the participation of 30 pupils from Almancil School.
Ria Formosa Week aims to strengthen ecological awareness and highlight one of the most important lagoon ecosystems in the country, promoting sustainable practices as well as community engagement in its protection. The seahorse, an emblematic species of this ecosystem, has been adopted as the symbol of the initiative, reinforcing the message of conservation and biodiversity protection.
