GovLab Session - New Societies and New Democracies

On March 5, at 11:00 (PT) / 13:00 (CET), we will host another GOVLab Online session, dedicated to a topic that is central to both our present and our future: the emerging agents transforming New Societies and New Democracies.

Please note: this session will be held in Portuguese.

This edition features Guilherme Serodio and Manuel Arriaga, who will share two complementary perspectives on the evolution of social and democratic dynamics:

  • Guilherme Serodio explores how social and ecological transformation begins within local territories, arguing that local-scale collective decision-making processes are essential to restoring agency to communities — particularly in rural contexts and in the stewardship of natural heritage.
  • Manuel Arriaga presents pathways to reinvent democracy and overcome the current crisis of trust and legitimacy affecting Western democracies, offering concrete examples of how more participatory democratic models can work in practice.

The session promises a lively and insightful discussion on emerging trends, new forms of participation, and innovative solutions to the challenges shaping our time.

The event is open and free, designed for everyone interested in these themes. Join us, bring your questions, and contribute to this essential conversation. We also invite you to share the event within your networks.

What are the GOVLabs?

The GOVLabs, promoted by MARE within the scope of the Thematic Research Line on Governance and Literacy (Thematic Research Lines | MARE), are informal spaces for meeting and learning where researchers, students, practitioners, and other interested participants share ideas, raise questions, explore emerging topics, and collaboratively build knowledge.
