MARE researcher elected President of the Board of the Centre for Civil Protection Studies and Intervention

Researcher Isabel Abreu dos Santos has been elected President of the Board of the Centro de Estudos e Intervenção em Proteção Civil (CEIPC).

A researcher at MARE/ARNET at NOVA FCT, Isabel Abreu dos Santos is a member of NOVACoast LAB, where she coordinates research in Risk Assessment and Management and Civil Protection. Her work stands out for its strong integration of science, planning, civil protection and public policies, with a focus on risk reduction, climate change adaptation and the strengthening of territorial resilience.

Her election to the presidency of the CEIPC recognises her scientific career and her steady contribution to advancing applied science approaches amid increasing challenges linked to natural and technological risks.

The CEIPC is committed to generating and sharing knowledge in civil protection, supporting applied research, training, and technical assistance for public and operational bodies. Its efforts focus on risk assessment and management, prevention and preparedness for emergencies, enhancing response capabilities, and cultivating a culture of safety and resilience by connecting science, public policy, and field operations.
