Symposium | Habitat restoration for diadromous fishes – best practices and impacts on stock assessment

30.6.-2.7.2026
Oulu, Finland
Diadromous fish face multiple pressures throughout their life cycles, with habitat degradation and fragmentation among the main drivers of population decline. Habitat restoration has been widely promoted as a key measure for the conservation of these species, but its effects on population dynamics and stock assessment are not always properly integrated into management processes.
This symposium aims to bring together researchers, managers, and decision-makers to discuss best practices for habitat restoration for diadromous fish and to analyse how these interventions can, and should, be incorporated into stock assessment and recovery, particularly in a context of climate change.
The event will promote the sharing of experiences, methodological approaches, and case studies, contributing to a more integrated management grounded in scientific evidence and with transnational relevance.
Target audience:
Scientific community, aquatic resource managers, technicians from environmental agencies and policy makers.
Abstract submission open until 15 February 2026, 18:00 CET here
