Activity summary

I am an assistant researcher at IPMA (Instituto Português do Mar e Atmosfera). I am involved in assessing the state of marine fisheries resources and ecosystems. I am especially interested in (1) assessing and modelling drivers of biodiversity, (2) exploring links between biodiversity, ecosystem functioning and services, (3) determining effects of human activities on aquatic ecosystems, (4) estimating the value of coastal habitats for exploited species and measuring population connectivity.

2018-2021: Project LIFELINE "Understanding temporal changes in aquatic biodiversity and their consequences for ecosystem functioning and services". Funded by FCT. 2018-2021: Project REEFNETS "Using ecological netwroks to predict marine ecosystem reponses to human threats". Funded by FCT. 2018-2020: Project FindRayShark "Sharks and rays conservation by enhancing awareness within fishermen communities and society". Funded by "Fundo para a Conservação dos Oceanos" ("Oceanário de Lisboa" and "Fundação Oceano Azul"). 2017-2018: Project FISHPI2 “Strengthening regional cooperation in the area of fisheries data collection in the North Sea, Eastern Arctic and North Atlantic”. Funded by EU DGMARE. 2017-2019: Project PNAB "Programa Nacional de Amostragem Biológica" which responds to the DCF (Data Collection Framework) - the EU framework for the collection and management of fisheries data.
