PORTUGAL - ITALIA – A LONG AND FRUITFUL SCIENTIFIC COLLABORATION

Stefania Chiesa, ISPRA

12 de Julho, 11h, Sala 2.2.22, Edifício C2, Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa

Dr. Stefania, Ph.D., since 2018 has been working as a Researcher/Technologist at ISPRA, the Italian Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (Rome, Italy). She has been a contracted professor of “Biotechnology” at the University of Venice “Ca’ Foscari” from 2017 to 2021 and of “Marine Biology” at the University of “Roma Tre” from 2018 to 2022. She worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Venetian university and at CESAM (Center for the Study of the Environment and the Sea) and the Department of Biology, University of Aveiro (Portugal), with a grant funded by FCT on bivalve aquaculture and fisheries, their traceability, contamination, and stress response. She supervised/co-supervised more than 20 students (both undergraduate and Ph.D.), at the University of Parma, Venice, and “Roma Tre”. Since 2021, she has been the co-supervising (together with Paula Chainho) the Ph.D. student Thomas Goulding, funded by the FCT to develop a dissertation on “The Portuguese clam fisheries. Impact of hybrids and ocean acidification to coastal communities”, at MARE-UL. Her research activities are multidisciplinary and focused on ecology and conservation of aquatic ecosystems and their biodiversity: mitigation of anthropogenic disturbances in transitional and coastal marine environments; sustainable aquaculture; contamination in marine environments; physiological and biochemical responses of marine species to environmental stressors; aquatic alien species and their impacts; molecular biology applied to conservation genetics and molecular taxonomy.
