New Marine Science Laboratory was born in Sines

The University of Évora (UÉ) and the Administration of the Ports of Sines and Algarve signed, on the 15th of January, in Sines, a concession contract for the private use of a public domain plot, set on north of the cape of Sines, where the new facilities for the UÉ Sea Sciences Laboratory (CIEMAR) will be built, and where a MARE hub is located. This contract comes under the recent approval of the project “Construction of research and innovation infrastructures at the UÉ Marine Sciences Laboratory - CIEMAR”, through the regional operational program Alentejo 2020.

The implementation of this project represents a new impetus for the development of marine sciences, particularly on the Alentejo coast, both in areas of scientific research and innovation, as well as technological development and knowledge transfer to companies and other entities in the sector, in addition to support for a higher education and the promotion of scientific culture.
